Coyote Springs Elementary School Awarded Yavapai County Healthy School Designation for 2018
On April 16, the Yavapai Healthy School (YHS) Coalition presented their top honor of Yavapai Healthy School of-the-year to Coyote Springs Elementary School in Prescott Valley. Yavapai County Health Department’s Carol Lewis, Suzie Delgado and Rachel Mills presented Principal Candice Stump with the award. 2017 Golden Plate Awards Announced
241 Yavapai County food establishments have earned the 2017 Golden Plate Award. This is the thirteenth year of the award, and to be eligible, an owner or operator needed to meet three criteria:
1) Operate throughout the entire calendar year 2017 without a cited critical food handling violation. Read more
2) Have an approved and implemented food safety plan.
3) Have a person-in-charge with an accepted and current manager-level food safety certificate throughout the year.

ADHS Public Health Officials Encourage Everyone to Get Vaccinated: PHOENIX - Flu is widespread in Arizona with 2,629 more cases reported than this time last year, the Arizona Department of Health Services announced today. As of Dec. 20, there have been 2,976 cases of flu reported compared to 347 for the same time period in 2016, which is a 758 percent increase in flu activity.
eWIC Makes it Easier for Families to Get Healthy Foods
The Arizona Department of Health Services has completed a multi-year effort to launch an electronic system called eWIC that replaces paper checks with a card for families that participate in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. WIC families can also download the EzWIC app for Apple and Android devices. This app will allow them to search the WIC Food List, scan items in the store to see if they are WIC-approved, and check their current benefit balance. Read more

With flu season right around the corner, U.S. health officials are urging everyone to get their flu shot now so they'll be protected from the potentially serious complications of influenza. Yavapai County Community Health Services has received their shipments of the ’17-’18 flu vaccine and they are ready to schedule appointments now. The flu season for 2017-2018 is expected to run from October 2017 through May 2018 with the peak four-month period being December through March. Read more

Yavapai County WIC Awarded for Outstanding Breastfeeding Support
Yavapai County WIC is one of six Agencies in the United States and U.S. Territories to be awarded the Gold Premier Award from Loving Support©. Yavapai County Community Health Services was the only agency in Arizona to qualify for this award, along with agencies in California, Washington and Idaho. Loving Support© Makes Breastfeeding Work is the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) national breastfeeding promotion and support campaign. Education, training and outreach materials are provided for staff of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Read more
