Mission Statement

All unattended and unnatural deaths occurring in Yavapai County are investigated by the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death. The office makes every effort to expeditiously and independently evaluate each death referred for investigation.

The investigations are conducted by the county medical examiner who is a duly trained forensic pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology. The medical examiner also reviews all death certificates of those individuals whose bodies are to be cremated.

The office of the medical examiner is a county office operating under the authority of Arizona Revised Statutes.

Reports documenting all death investigations are a matter of public record. Copies of those reports are available upon request at a nominal fee established by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors

Hours of Operation

The office of the medical examiner conducts business Monday through Friday and is closed on official holidays. The office responds to all reported deaths through a contracted removal service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
